Sarnia Minor Novice Tan Team Dons Purple Tape For Teammate's Cousin
Submitted By Amanda Madere on Sunday, December 9, 2018
This season, Mateo Westhaver of the Minor Novice Tan team, has been taping his stick purple in support of his 4 year old cousin who is currently battling stage 4 cancer.  Last weekend, with the support of coach Jeff Fogal, Mateo's mom Brittany was able to open up to their team about the battle and struggles their family is facing.

It was also time to share with the team that this weekend would be Mateo's last weekend playing in Sarnia.  The Westhaver family will be moving back home to New Brunswick for the time being to help their family through their upcoming battle with cancer.  Of their time with Sarnia Hockey, Brittany had this to say " My son has been blessed to be part of the Sarnia Hockey family for 4 years, you have taught him how to skate, pass, shoot and respect on and off the ice.  Thank you to not only my son's team, but to Sarnia Hockey for showing me what it means to be part of a hockey
family."   To show support for Mateo's cousin Jaxon, the Tan team all taped their sticks purple for their final game together and awarded Jaxon the player of the game puck because "even though he wasn't there, they played for him"  We at Sarnia Hockey want to thank the Westhaver family for their kind words, and we wish you the best of luck with your move.  We will be thinking of Jaxon.
