Sarnia Sting Major Novice MD2 Team Has A Skate-A-Thon For Childcan In Honour of Deklan Biggers
On February 18th, 2020, the Sarnia Sting Major Novice MD2 players held a skate-a-thon during practice, where they collected pledges to complete as many laps of the ice as they could in 30 minutes. The skate-a-thon was held to raise money for Childcan in honour of Deklan Biggers from Sarnia. Childcan raises awareness and funds to provide personalized, responsive and compassionate programs and services to families facing the childhood cancer journey, from diagnosis, through treatment, to recovery or bereavement.
The players really embraced this opportunity to find a way to help others and raised over $3,400 in pledges for Childcan and managed to skate over 874 laps (147 kilometres) combined as a team, around the rink at Clearwater Arena. We were also really lucky to have Deklan and her Family attend the skate-a-thon, as well as, the Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. B Hockey Club joined our players on the ice to take part in the skating. A special thank you to both for making this even more special and memorable!! I would also like to thank Planet Stitch for donating the helmet stickers for all the players and to Alanna Cobb and Steph Dunlop for combining their efforts in organizing such a great event for our team and for showing our players that there is more to hockey then just being a player. That when presented with the opportunity to make a difference in other’s lives, they unselfishly exceeded all expectations and represented SHA as a class act!
