With the McDonald’s Atom House League back in the swing of things, the teams had skated off
the Christmas Turkey and had found their legs for the 12th
week of league play. This week had Green and Grey, Red and White, Blue and
Orange, and Black and Yellow back at each other.
Green and Grey took the early ice at Clearwater. (Spoiler
Alert) Grey’s Goalie Josh Craig stood on his head, and turned away a great
melee for the shutout. Grey’s offence helped the cause by burying 5 goals. In
the first, Zion Ainsworth scored two consecutive goals (assists to Josh Grant,
Jordan Yates, and Xander Stafford). In the second, Josh Grant put up the only
goal of the frame when Ainsworth returned the favor with a pretty pass. And in
the final period, Dean Palimaka stretched the lead with an unassisted marker
before Josh Grant iced the game and buried his second goal, and fourth point of
the game with the assist going to Jeremy MacMillan.
Up next the All Canadian game with Red and White going head
to head. Red’s Pat Tisdale took the feed from Austin Bishop and opened the
scoring for his team. Zach Pearson and Mitch Keelan helped out making it 2-0
for Red until with just under two minutes left in the frame, Thomas Field
netted the answering goal for White. In the second the teams each pushed one
more chip into the pot. Red’s Zach Pearson scored his second (this time from
Austin Bishop) and White’s Jackson Fawdry buried the dish from Curtis
Arsenault. And with the score at 3-2 going into the third, Matteo Troiani
netted Red’s fourth goal and kept his personal point streak alive. The final
buzzer rang out with a 4-2 victory for Red in the books.
The third timeslot was reserved for Blue and Orange. In the
first, Orange opened the scoring with a marker from Ryan Dennis. Blue was quick
to answer though with a tally of their own from Christian D’Agostini (assist to
Liam Cullinan). Orange then pulled out two more goals before the period was up,
the first coming from Quinn Schmidt (assist to Dennis) and the second from
Blake Freer. The second period saw Blue answer with another dandy from
D’Agostini and it turned out to be the only goal of the frame. The third opened
with two twine seeking missiles from Oranges Quinn Schmidt as he completed his
hat-trick (assists going to Dennis and O’Brien). But D’Agostini decided to defy
the day and dangle in for a dynamite dinger completing a hat-trick of his own.
Final Score 5-3 for Orange.
The fourth match of the morning was buzzing with Black and
Yellow. Yellow shot out to an early lead when Hudson Laur and Dawson Howes
found each other in the zone and put the puck away. But Sebastien Fraser and
Kevin Gray quickly pulled Black back to even ground. George Feniak couldn’t
stand the tie though, and quickly did something about it, netting another for
Black. The second period allowed time for Fraser’s second, and Ethan Charron’s
first to bring the score to 4-1. And in the third period, Liam Robinson let go
a wrist shot “with eyes” and it found its way into the back of the net, to
finalize the 5-1 victory for Black, and finalize the 12th week of McDonald’s
Atom House League Hockey.
