2012-13 Instructional Program
ATTENTION ALL INSTRUCTIONAL PLAYERS AND PARENTS!!
As the Director of Instructional Hockey for the Sarnia Hockey Association, I am looking forward to another great season of our program developed to continually improve our grassroots system and offer a better hockey experience to our “veteran” instructional players.

For the 2012/13 hockey season, the instructional division will again be divided into 3 levels of players based on age, experience and an individual skills assessment. The levels will be referred to as...
  • Developmental
  • Recreational
  • Competitive

Each “team” will be comprised of approximately 30 players consisting of 10 players at each level wearing different coloured jerseys respectively. All players will have one hour of ice each week (Sat or Sun AM) as a team, with the exception of the Competitive level who will get a second hour of ice each week (Friday evenings) along with the kids from the other teams at the same level. This second hour will be structured like a regular team practice and will eventually include ½ or full hour scrimmage games.

In the second half of the season, these “teams” will be encouraged to have exhibition games with teams from other centers in the same age group and potentially enter into local tournaments. Assessments will be done by the coaches during the first 2-3 sessions. Those wanting to play Comp should communicate that right away to the coaches as they will be looking for kids to fill the spots. The intention of our program is to give our kids more ice and better instruction amongst their peers as an alternate to “moving up”.

The goals as always are skills development, team play and FUN.

The season will start the first week in October and players will be contacted prior to that with team information. All players are required to wear full equipment per SHA rules including socks and jerseys as they will not be given out until the levels are established.

As the Director, I am excited about and committed to the success of this program and want to encourage all of you to get involved. As always, I am looking for good coaches and assistants to help with the program for both the weekly sessions and the Comp program. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

Yours in hockey, Tom Collins.
