Congratulations to the Midget Sabers Selects.
The Sarnia Sabers Midget Select team recently participated in the Gene Harrington Invitational Hockey Tournament, held in Niagara Falls NY, this past weekend where they had a perfect record of 4-0 to win the tournament title.


It was a solid team effort as the Selects scored 24 goals and allowed only 4 against throughout the tournament. The Selects cruised past West Island (from Quebec) 7-0 in their first game. Craig Vanderlaan scored twice and added an assist while Jacob Cottam, Logan MacKinlay, Brendan Bouterse, Noah Vachon and Mitchell O’Bradovic rounded out the scoring. Collin Zimmer picked up a pair of assists and Cody Lunn, Thomas Laevens, Zach Roehler, Joshua Bressette and Andrew Harron each had one. Goalie Nick Budden’s performance earned him the shutout. In game two, the team played at the Buffalo River Work Rink (outdoor venue) and beat Amherst NY 3-0. Cody Lunn found the back of the net twice and Collin Zimmer had a goal and an assist. Noah Vachon, Alex Newall, Joshua Bressette, Brendan Bouterse and Aidan Atyeo-Griffin were all credited with single helpers. Goalie Cameron Stevens steady performance earned the team their second shutout. Game three, the Selects offense continued as they defeated Beverly (near Hamilton) 6-1. Vincent Lavoie lit the lamp twice while teammates Cody Lunn and Brendan Bouterse had a goal and an assist apiece. Jacob Cottam and Caleb Bourgeois were the other snipers. Collin Zimmer chipped in with three assists and Aidan Atyeo-Griffin had one. Goalie Nick Budden backstopped the team with a stellar performance. The team traveled back to the Buffalo River Work (outdoor venue) and once again square off against Beverly for the championship game. The Selects dominant play earned them an 8-3 victory. Craig Vanderlaan supplied two goals and two assists. Both Joshua Bressette and Zach Roehler had a goal and an assist while Mitchell O’Bradovic, Alex Newall, Collin Zimmer and Caleb Bourgeois rounded out the scoring. Andrew Harron garnered two assists and Thomas Laevens, Brendan Bouterse, Logan MacKinlay and Vincent Lavoie each had one. Goalie Cameron Stevens was solid between the pipes for the win.
