Sting Champs at Mooretown Tournament!!!
The Sting completed a busy weekend with a win over the host Mooretown Storm winning the Mooretown Tournament.

The Sting team came to the rink and it was clear that they meant business the second they hit the dressing room.  The Sting knew they would have a difficult game against a Mooretown team they had beaten twice in two hotly contested games.

When the Sting hit the ice they started on fire.  The line of Goossens, Baillie and D'Angela started the game putting the Storm on their heels from the opening face-off.  The second line capitalized as the Storm were unable to change in their own end do to the pressure by the Sting players.  Kaleb Zeytinoglu started the scoring with a pretty goal in the slot which was assisted by Hayden Griffin and Greg Ross.

The first period ended 1-0 despite the immense pressure the Sting players were putting on the Storm.

The Sting's hard play was finally rewarded in the second period as the scoring started.  Cole Goossens fired two goals within three minutes giving the Sting some breathing room.  Assists on those goals went the Andrew Czyczurko and Spencer Baillie.  Kaleb Zeytinoglu then answered with his second of the game as he scored on a pass from Colin Zimmer.  Evan Trigatti then showed that he isn't the only sniper in the family and he buried a nice goal in the slot off a pass from Aidan Clark.  The play was set up with some impressive play from defenceman Aidan Clark who wisely joined the rush and stayed to control the play in the offensive zone with some gritty, inspiring play to get the assist.

The Sting continued their hard play until about midway through the third period.  At this point, the Sting players began envisioning raising the tournament banner at the Clearwater Arena and being showered with Playstation games by their parents as a reward for winning the tournament.  The Sting pulled their foot off the accelerator thinking the games was well in hand.

Oh, wait a second!!!

The Storm, began "storming" back scoring three unanswered goals showing that they weren't down and out.  The second Storm goal was triggered by a gutsy coaching move by the Storm when he pulled their goalie with seven minutes left, on the power play.  The call was rewarded and the Storm seemed rejuvenated by the bold move.

A time out was called with three minutes left in the game by Coach Schaefer to calm down the Sting players who were reeling from the surprise attack...

The Sting calmed down and Spencer Baillie put away an empty net goal to put the nail in the coffin of the Storm.  The goal was assisted by Mathew Waun and Aidan Clark.

"Players of the Game" were Kaleb Zeytinoglu and Aidan Clark.   Zeytinoglu for his hustle and scoring and Aidan Clark for his physical play and solid defence.

Perhaps the most impressive effort of the night came from Kaz Gudelis who came to the rink unsure if he could play due to an injury suffered in a previous game.  Gudelis toughed it out for half the game with his inspiring physical play until he fell on his injured gluteus maximus knocking him out of the game.  The rest of the defence played and excellent game with great performances put in by Greg Ross, Mathew Waun, Aidan Clark, Damon Skinn-Wai and Ian Bailey.

Great work Sting and congratulations on your achievement....  The team now gets a well deserved rest to ice their bruises....
