Sting Minor Pee Wee MD Team Captures Alliance Provincial Championship!
The Sting traveled to Stratford this weekend to face the tier one qualifiers from around the Province of Ontario in the Alliance Provincial Championship.  The Sting competed against the Kitchener Rangers, the Stratford Warriors and the Hamilton Tigers.

The Sting managed there way through pool play to face off against the Hamilton Tigers in the semi-finals.  The Sting had dropped a game to Hamilton in pool play and expected a tough game.  The Sting battled back from a two goal deficit with four unanswered goals playing inspired hockey in the final two periods.  This landed them a date with the Kitchener Rangers in the Sunday final.

The Sting knew the game would be tight as the Rangers stingy defense wasn't likely to give them many breaks.  The Sting managed to score the first goal of the game as Brock Barber sniped a goal past the Kitchener Goalie.  The Sting managed to hold on to the lead until midway through the second period when Kitchener tied things up.  The Sting managed to control the play for large portions of the game, however, scoring opportunities were few and far between.  Kitchener managed to take the lead, in the game, and managed to hold on to it until late in the final period.

After Kitchener drew a penalty the Sting pulled their goalie hoping the 6 on 4 advantage would work in their favour.  This set up a scoring opportunity for Cole Goossens and he didn't disappoint.  Goossens scored with 1:03 left in the game to tie things up.  The game ended in a tie and the two teams entered into sudden death overtime.

The Sting controlled the play throughout the first overtime period, however, neither team managed to score.  The two teams then entered a second overtime period.  With three Sting players on the bench hurt the players had to dig deep to find the energy to continue.

Midway through the second overtime period, Cole Goossens won a battle along the side boards with a Kitchener defenseman which sent him on a break away against the Rangers goalie.  Goossens didn't disappoint as he fired a wrist shot to the top corner to end the game.  The team celebrated an excellent performance by all team members capping off an excellent year.  The Sting have captured three tournament championships, the overall lead in the regular season, the West Alliance play downs, and the West Alliance Championship.  These accomplishments ultimately led them to their place in the Provincial tourney where they captured gold.   Congratulations!
