Motown Cup Champs
The Sarnia Sting Atom A/AA Hockey Club travelled down I-94 on the weekend to battle for the prized Motown Cup. Expectations were high for this hungry group & the boys set out to impress the fans that made the short trip to Hockey Town, USA.
Atom A/AA set their sights on the Flamborough Sabres in game 1. This was an epic battle with both teams scoring late in the 3rd period to force a 4-4 draw & foreshawdowed an amazing final with two highly skilled, great hockey clubs! Things didn't go so well in game 2. The Sting suffered a 4-2 setback in a hotly contested battle with the Willowdale Blackhawks. Saturday afternoon brought the Hillcrest Canadiens & a great match at the U of M Dearborn. The Sting worked hard & fought the Habs to another 4-4 tie. Sunday morning brought the Redford Royals & the boys needed a big win, and some help from the Hockey Gods. The Sting would not disappoint!! The boys battled hard for three full periods & out worked, out played, & out muscled this tough Michigan squad to send the Royals home early with a 4-0 win. The Sting needed some help to make the final to be rewarded for their hard work all weekend. The efforts were aided by the young Habs beating the Blackhawks & the Sting got a much aniticipated rematch with the Flamborough Sabres.
The boys fell down early 1-0 but then their pride & determination took over & the momentum began to swing in the Stings favour. The Sting dominated the rest of the contest, bringing home the Motown Cup for their loud, boistirous crowd. The boys fought hard & earned a tough 4-2 victory!! Congratulations Sting!!!
