SARNIA JR. STING GO UNDEFEATED, BRINGING HOME THE CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER THIS PAST WEEKEND
The Sarnia Jr Sting Minor Bantam A/AA team traveled to Barrie this past weekend to play in the Canadian Tire Classic Hockey Tournament. The Sarnia Jr. Sting went undefeated, outscoring their opponents 20-6 to win the tournament and bring home the championship banner.
After their long drive to Barrie on Friday, they started off slow in their first game against Credit Valley who lead in the 1st period 1-0, however in the 2nd period, the goal from Jacob Williams assisted by Isaak Tucker and Matthew Praill tied the game going into the 3rd. In the 3rd goalie, Taylor Iacobelli kept the team in the game and with only 5 minutes left Adam L’Heureux’s goal assisted by Aidan Manery put Sarnia in the Lead, winning 2-1.
The 1st Game on Saturday morning, the Sting struggled against the team from Quinte. In the 1st period Quinte took the 1st 2 goals and with 41 seconds left Marcus Cossa assisted by Jack McAuley scored the Sting’s first goal. Going into the 2nd period the Sting were losing by 1 and by the end of the second period the Sting were losing by 2. In the 3rd Matthew Praill scored the Sting’s second goal and goalie Patrick Kelly held the Quinte team to only one more goal, allowing the Sting to rally back with two more goals, one from Isaak Tucker, assisted by Marcus Cossa and a final goal from Jameson Hart assisted by Adam L’Heureaux, tied the game 4-4.
Saturday’s 2nd game, the team regrouped and won 5-0 against Grimsby, giving their goalie Taylor Iacobelli a shut-out and guaranteeing them a spot in the semi finals on Sunday. The 1st goal was scored by Jack McAuley, assisted by Ryan Gould and Keelan Kells, 2nd goal came from Benjamin Rutledge assisted by Matthew Praill, 3rd goal came from Jacob Williams assisted by Nick Burgess and Jameson Hart, 4th goal came from Nicholas Burgess assisted by Camden Pomerleau and the final goal came from Adam L’Heureux assisted by Marcus Cossa and Keelan Kells.
Sunday’s Semi finals game was against Whitby. Goalie Patrick Kelly shut-out Whitby 2-0 and goals were scored by Keelan Kells assisted by Matthew Praill and Jacob Williams. The final goal in the 3rd period was scored by Camden Pomerleau assisted by Nicholas Burgess guaranteeing Sarnia a spot in the finals.
In the other semi final game, Grimsby won against North Bay also putting Grimsby in the finals with Sarnia.
Sarnia and Grimsby met for the second time; however Sarnia came out on fire in the 1st period, scoring 4 goals. 1st goal came from Jameson Hart assisted by Aidan Manery, second goal came from Jacob Williams, assisted by Jack McAuley, 3rd goal came from Isaak Tucker assisted by Matthew Praill, and 4th goal came from Jack McAuley assisted by Benjamin Rutledge and Jameson Hart. In the 2nd period Grimsby scored their 1st and only goal, followed by Sarnia’s 5th goal, scored by Marcus Cossa, assisted by Burke Roszell. In the 3rd period Sarnia finished the game with two more goals, one from Camden Pomerleau, assisted by Jameson Hart and the final goal came from Benjamin Rutledge. With the final Score 7-1, the Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Bantam A/AA team was able to bring home the Championship Banner!
Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships!
