Sarnia Sting Minor Midgets hosted Waterloo Wolves on Saturday afternoon

losing 4-0 then held off Stratford Warriors to gain a 3-3 tie at the Rotary Complex on Sunday afternoon. 

    Waterloo scored at 11:09 of the first after a turnover then again at 10:34 to take a 2-0 lead into the second. Sarnia took two minors in the period.   The Wolves added to their lead in the second with a goal at 9:34 while Sarnia could only manage a crossbar. In the third, Waterloo were assessed two penalties followed by Sarnia being assessed two penalties. The Wolves rounded out the scoring with another goal, a power play one, at 11:37.   Matt Szabo kicked out 24 shots in the Sarnia net and Blake Jensen recorded the shutout for Waterloo on 15 shots. 

    In the Sunday game, Sarnia took the lead in the first at 6:15 on a goal by Kevin Durco assisted by Blain Adams and Dillon Saunders. It was a pretty 3 way passing play attacking the net. The period was penalty free.
Stratford tied the game at 12:58 of the second by crashing the net on Lauzon until the puck trickled in. The Sting took the lead shortly thereafter when Dillon Saunders banged the puck home following a scramble in front of Stratford’s net. Kevin Durco and Devin Butler drew assists. A string of penalties followed and the period ended with Sarnia still holding the lead.   Stratford scored two quick goals early in the third to tie the game then take the lead. Michael Pearce retied the game at 13:36 with a steep angle shot that eluded the goalie’s glove. Gage Riddoch and Jeff Williams drew assists on the play. The game ended 3-3 tie in spite of fighting, slashing and unsportsmanlike penalties for yapping. Cole Lauzon kept Sarnia in the game as the Sting were outshot badly 43 to 16.
