Minor Peewee MD Team Win Motown Cup
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Peewee MD team travel to Farmington Hill, Michigan last weekend to play in their second tournament of the year; The Motown Cup.

Their first opponent would be the Sylvania North Stars 02 A Team. The boys played strong at both ends of the ice but faced a very good North Stars goaltender. The boys would not let up applying pressure all game winning by a score of 2-0. Ian Stauth would earn his first shutout of the season making many timely saves

The team’s first opponent on Saturday, second of the tournament, would be the Lansing Senators A Team. Team defence was again excellent with Michael Handy scoring a Bobby Orr type end to end goal.  Final score was 3-0. Jacob Gould and Chandler Haagsma would also score with Dylan Cornish, Lleyton Williams, Kaden Babcock, Parker Vandenboom and Jack Symington adding assists. Caden Cormier would earn his second shutout of the season.

Our second opponent of the day would be the Midwest Blackbirds. This would be a difficult test for the team as the team would face the most dominate player seen by this team to date. Strong shadowing would be shown by Dom Krasinkiewicz and Jacob Gould and great goaltending by Ian Stauth would hold him to score only once with the Sting winning by a final score of 6-1. This win would advance the team to the finals against a strong Sylvania North Stars Team.

The Championship game would be a coming out party for first year player Thomas Field. Thomas scored the Sting first and second (game winner) and his first and second goal of the season that would help the Sting win 4-1 to capture the championship. Others to score would be Kaden Babcock and Dylan Cornish. Adding assists would be Curtis Allardyce, Nathan Elliott, Josh Rice, Jacob Roe, Jack Symington, Chandler Haagsma and Lucan Hazzard. Caden Cormier would again be excellent in this game. Earning MVP honors would be Thomas Field.

The coaches were very proud of the boy’s hard work and great defence outscoring their opponents 15-2. We would also like to thank the parents as they cheered loud and strong through out the whole tournament.
