Maroons Take on League's Top Team
The Maroons set out today to stop the Sky Blue Machine that's been eating up wins all through the league. There were plenty of heart stopping plays and hard grinding on the boards! Chase DeHaan played goal for the Maroons today. Chase stayed strong in goal keeping the Sky Blue shots out of the net.
Scoring was opened up by the opposition today. A pair of unassisted singles in the first period by Sam Bulsza and and Quinn Carruthers had the Maroons trailing 2-0.
Things turned around early in period #2. Claire Schleihauf was able to slip the puck into the net past Sky Blue net minder Owen Gray. Claire was hard on the puck today and she recieved PLAYER OF THE GAME. An assist was awarded to Ryerson Detrich. His pass from the blue line was a perfect set up and got the Maroon offense in gear. Both goalies held strong for the remainder of the period. 2-1 Sky Blue to enter the 3rd.
It was in the third you could see the game's pace taking it's toll on both teams. Liam Marcy was able to force a turnover at center ice and carried the puck past 2 Sky Blue defenders. You could hear a pin drop as Liam took his shot and hit the back of the net. Tie game 2-2 with 11:44 to go. The clock wound down as the puck went back and forth to each end. Huge credit to both goalies for keeping their teams in the game the whole way each side earning a point at the end of the day. Great Job!
