Maroons Sieze First Win On The Road
What an exciting day for the Maroons today against Black. The Mighty Maroons managed to stay in front of Black with a 7-2 win despite being held in their defensive zone for over half the game. Julia Gibb was goaltender today. She earned the win with big saves keeping the Black offense at bay. Some strong stick blocks and a big diving save helped the Maroons seal the fate of their adversary.
Today's offense was on fire! Scoring was opened up early in Period #1 by Logan Jones with 3 goals and his line mates Chase Dehaan (2 Assists) and Colton Lotz (1 Assist). This trio was able to score a goal during each shift they had in the first period. End of the first 3-1 Maroon.
Period 2 was a long one with some big defensive and offensive plays. Olivia Taylor was stonewalled on her breakaway by Black's Goalie Owen Adams. Claire Schleihauf and Casey Guerette showed thier defensive abilities blocking shots in front of the Maroon net. Claire also earned an assist on Luke Anjema's single goal in the 2nd period. 4-2 Maroon leading into the 3rd.
It was in the third where it looked like Black was pushing back. Maroon was unable to clear the puck and found themselves on defense for most of the period. The Jones/DeHaan/Lotz line were hard on the puck. 3 goals for the trio in the 3rd as well. Colton scored twice, an earned by Logan and two earned by Chase. Logan also put an unassited goal on the scoreboard early in the third.
Great game Maroons, all your fans are looking forward to their first Double Header Weekend next week. Saturday's afternoon game at 4pm against the Gold Team and Sunday Morning Game 9AM against the Grey.
