5th Playoff Game Report
Hello Team and Parents, The regular season top points getter, the Green Machine, would be who we would face off against today and they would be hitting on all cylinders! As soon as the puck dropped you could feel the intensity in the air. Both teams started cautiously but the pace of play would quickly ramp up, Green opened the scoring at 13:22 and seemed to be in control. But that goal seemed to only inspire the Black Beast as Ryson Payne retaliated and tied the game shortly after!!
As the game played on our defenceman Jordan Brooks hit his stride and took the puck into Green's end and narrowly missed hitting the side of the net instead of the back! After that Keaton Appeldorn and Noah Mooser teamed up for a break but a nice forward pass would miss it's mark and the play went sour. Once again between the pipes for us would be James Robbins and he would be tested on a break away but calmly stopped and covered the puck with his defensemen coming in to help clear the opposition. With only a couple minutes left in the 1st we hammered the puck in the Green's end and would apply constant pressure until Keaton saw the goalie give him an opportunity and slide it 5 hole and put us in the lead to end the period. The second period would be dominated by Green as they peppered our goalie and frustrated us with continuous pressure but James and the Beast team would hold off the flurry of attempts. At one point Green seemed to tie the game as it was called off due to goalie interference ( common problem in the NHL these days) but play intensified and Alex Campbell intercepted a certain break away pass at centre ice to help change momentum. After that James would snatch a high shot with a quick glove save. A nice defensive play by our forward Landon Williams as he uses the boards to get the play out of our end. Green did not give up and continued to apply pressure in our end but Keaton would break up a play in front of our net and then take it up ice and show how high he is capable of lifting the puck up and out of our end , that gave me time to finish my coffee and donut waiting for the puck to return to earth, Thanks Keaton. The puck is bought back down ice into our end by 2 Green players only to be denied by James once again. Danny Morningstar would help end the period with a end to end rush of his own to keep our team positive. The third period started with intensity once again as Kaleb Orrange would soon realize how a pancake feels as a player twice his size would pin him to the ice and knock the breathe out of him . Scary for a moment but after Trainer Aaron tended to him he would bounce right back up. As play continued back and forth Leland Williams would also dump the puck out of our end to relieve pressure. Connor Vandermeer then stepped up his game and blasted a shot to the net only to be stopped but again found the puck on his stick and lifted a back hand shot over the net. With 11:00 minutes left we dominated the play and Noah had 2 excellent chances to score. Down to 9:00 minutes left and James does the butterfly to save the game with his outstretched pad, later admitting that maybe more stretching pre game would be a good idea! Now with 4:15 left Green scores to tie the game. A minute later Ryson 's break away would be denied as the crowd sits on the edge of their seats. Again Green takes control of the game and nets the go ahead goal with only 2:40 left. But the Black Beast do not choke and stay focused as this is a an important game. With 1:00 minute remaining we pull the goalie and send in fresh bodies to attack the opposition. We control the play in their end and as the crowd is now standing and not breathing Noah puts the puck out to Connor and he hammers it home to tie the game with 9 seconds left and the crowd goes wild!! An amazing game by both teams and that is what Playoff Hockey is all about!! See everyone on Friday 6:00 for practice. GO BEAST GO!!
