6th Playoff Game Report
Hello Team and Parents, The last time we went up against the Purple Pirates the final score would be a 2-2 tie. This time we wanted to step up our game and go for a win! Before the game I announced that after a team vote and coach's input that Ryson Payne would be our Team Captain for the rest of the year. Thanks to all the team and staff for their votes and comments on the Captain. Everyone knows that the Captain is to lead by hard work and positive leadership, congratulations Ryson I am sure you are up to the challenge.

The game started out quick with both sides controlling play until our new Captain found the puck on his stick and off he went to work and split the defence and beat the goalie at 13:20 to open the scoring. With Ryson leading the charge everyone else seemed to follow as Jimmy Lawrence had his own breakaway but put it just wide of the net. After that shot our defence got into the game also with Matthew Ray poke checking a Purple player trying to enter our zone. The play continued and Keaton Appeldorn blasted another puck at the Purple goalie who looked good early. Purple was not intimidated and brought the puck deep into our end but James Robbins would stop a low shot and smother the puck to stop play. The play of the period belonged to Jimmy who saw Ryson breaking out threw center ice with him, he slid the puck between the skates of the Purple player and Ryson would take it from there and score his 2nd of the game! Excellent hockey play Jimmy nice assist! With the period closing out a Purple player had a break away chance but Noah Mooser would hustle back to break up the scoring chance but would also take a penalty. That hustle and penalty probably saved a goal well done Noah!                                                                    Period 2 started with us enjoying a 2-0 lead and at 12:18 Purple takes their own penalty. With some extra ice open Ryson (obviously happy with the C on his jersey) took advantage and would net another to complete his hat trick!! The team would keep up the pressure as Landon Williams would chase down the puck and set up 2 scoring chances for the Beasts. Then at 10:25 Keaton would snap home a shot from the left side faceoff circle and add to our lead 4-0. Our netminder seemed to keep calm as he faced shot after shot and continued to frustrate the Purple offense. Late in the period Danny Morningstar skated behind our net with the puck and was taken down hard but would limp to the bench and after catching his breath and surveying the damage shook off the after effects and jumped back in the battle. With 6:00 left in the period Purple applied pressure in our end but again James held his own and saved another shot in tight. Finally with 4:31 left Purple broke in on a break away and went bar down on a beautiful shot that not even Frederick Anderson could stop.                                                In the 3rd period with the game seemingly safe for us Jimmy would send a high wrist shot past the Purple goalie and post to put the score at 5-1Black. The game flowed nicely for us and with 7:00 minutes left we held them tight in their end and kept shooting the puck at the goalie only to have him make a n excellent save of his own and inspire his team. After our defenceman Danny took the puck end to end on a high tempo attack, Purple gained control and slid one 5 hole past James. Now with some newly found enthusiasm Purple scored another quick goal 35 seconds later to make the game interesting. After the opposition took a penalty with 3:44 left Connor Vandermeer applied his own pressure and Noah Mooser took a shot that the goalie swept away. As play continued Purple again found the back of our net with 1:34 left in the game to make it 5-4 Black. Purple then pulled their goalie and left everything on the ice but we would not be denied today. The final buzzer went and our fans went wild as our team bear hugged James!! Hard fought game this week but we showed that we can stick together as a team and preserve a victory ( although I was more comfortable with a 5-1 lead). Excellent game from both teams!! Everyone can sleep in a bit this week as we don't play until 11:00 against White. GO BEAST GO!!
