C-Cup Championship Game Report
Hello Team and Parents, This Championship game would again match us up against the Gold Dragons who we narrowly defeated 3-1 only 2 short weeks ago. With both teams ready to end their season with a trophy, the battle began! Our Captain Ryson Payne would tear down the ice and put the 1st shot of the game on net to show that we were here to play some hockey. After that Grayson Levy sent his own shot wide to continue the pressure. But only 2 minutes into the game Ryson would streak down ice and go top shelf , where he keeps the peanut butter, to put Black on top early.
With a quick lead James Robbins felt a little relieved in net and knew that his team had his back as he stopped the puck and covered it for a whistle. The team did not let up as Jordan Brooks would keep the puck in the Gold end and rifle his own shot from the blue line. Our goalie again would be tested and stood tall as the Gold team had a break away opportunity only to be crushed. Next up would be Leland Williams dumping the puck in from center ice to force the play. Gold was also here to contend for that trophy as they had another break away attempt busted by Ryson followed by Danny Morningstar breaking their hearts on another attempt. Danny then went to the attack mode as he fed Jack Berry a beauty pass thru center ice only to be broke up. As it has been most of the year our defencemen were automatic out there as Alex Campbell stole his own puck from Gold on our blue line to end any silly ideas from the opposing team. Kaleb Orrange knows his hockey as he instinctively dropped back to the blue line to cover for an attacking Black Beast defenceman, heads up Kaleb must be the coaching! The game is close and the fans are sweating to start the second but James comes up big early with a nice stick save to reassure our team. We are starting to find our groove as Leland sets up Jimmy Lawrence for a shot, and then James sends a save into the corner. The boys are clicking as Matthew Ray passes to Jack who feeds Connor Vandermeer who keeps their goalie awake with a shot. After that Gold would finally beat James and tie the game 1-1 at 6:47 to keep it close. With some back and forth excitement the period would end tied and keep the crowd wanting more! The 3rd period was all ours to start as Jimmy had a break away saved, then Connor would also be stopped. Soon after Gold would test James twice only to be denied on both attempts. Keaton Appeldorn would show his speed as he went across ice on multiple times to assist his team mates and help his goalie stay solid. The game is ticking away and with it tied both teams are pounding away to put up that magical goal. Jimmy would step up and hit the cross bar with only about 3 minutes left, then James would back up the team with a save to fire up the crowd. Then on a miscalculation we would take a penalty with 2 minutes remaining. Even being down a player and time against us , Ryson would have a short handed break away attempt stopped with 35 seconds on the clock! Then with only 2 seconds left James would again make a save to send this game to OVERTIME! The rules would set us up 4 on 4 for the 1st 5 minutes. Again Ryson and James would step up and provide both offensive and defensive gems. Once the 2nd overtime started it was 3 on 3 and the madness started both on the ice and in the stands! Danny would take a pass and go in alone only to be stopped. Jimmy would be the next as he grazed 1 high off the cross bar to keep the crowd on their feet. Gold would keep it interesting and make James perform like no other game as they caught us a sleep at the wheel and go in 3 on 0 but our goalie would save the day and send it to a 3rd OT . On the bench the coaches scrambled to put players together but in all the chaos Connor would go in alone and send the goalie left as he went right to have the empty net all to himself and bury the winning goal to erupt the crowd and players and make us Champions for the year!! At the end of it all we won the C -Cup and had a 3 game win streak to finish the year.
