Rock N' Roll Cup Champions!!
"Holy smokes, we won!!""

Over this past weekend, we competed in the Rock N' Roll Cup in Cleveland Ohio, and went undefeated!!

We opened the tournament with a win over our name twin, the Troy Sting, 3-2.  It was a back and forth affair, but we managed to hold on for the victory.

Our next two games resulted in ties.  First, it was 2-2 versus the Youngstown Phantoms (who we would meet again) and then 1-1 versus the Sylvania North Stars.  Credit goes to the goaltending tandem of Mya Glaister and Callum Scott for ensuring that we got a point out of both of those games!

Our 4 points was good for berth in the semi finals, again facing the Phantoms.  This time we played like we were capable of and won with a lopsided score of 4-0, limiting the opposition to just a handful of shots throughout the game.

In the finals, we faced the first place team, Compuware.  This game had a little bit of everything.  There will be stories from this game told for years to come!! (rental skates??).

We built an early lead and were up 4-1 in the third period.  Penalty trouble resulted in numerous power plays for the opposition and they capitalized.  Eventually tying the game at 4 and forcing overtime, which settled nothing.  Off to the shootout.

A shooter on each team scored early and then the goaltending took over.  The shootout went 10 players deep before Nate Shaw finally ended it for the Sting Win!!

It was a total team effort for this win.  It was nice to see the players take up different roles that they excelled at.  Congratulations to Kyla Rumford for being named the tournament MVP!

Thank you very much to the parent group for a fun and enjoyable weekend.  The travel wasn't easy as we put on over 200 miles between arenas and hotels over the three days, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it allows us to look forward to the next one!!

Coach Mike.
