Sarnia Sting Minor Midgets travelled across the
border to Fraser, Michigan
on the north side of Detroit for an exhibition game with the Summit, a compatible team, at Great Lakes Sports City complex. Both teams worked hard and had some great chances but the Sting made better use of their opportunities to win 3-0.
In the first period, Dillon Saunders scored on a shot to the right side of the net from the slot. Jeff Williams drew the assist on the play. The period ended without a single penalty.
In the second, each team drew two minors but no goals were scored. Cole Lauzon was effective in his half of the game stopping 13 shots on goal. Matt Szabo took over at the 7:26 marks and preserved the shut out the rest of the way.
After a Summit hooking penalty in the third, Devin Butler scored a power play goal at 11:32 assisted by Jeff Williams. Sarnia’s third goal came shortly after that at 8:34 when Blain Adam’s shot was partially stopped but trickled through into the goal. Saunders drew the assist.
In the shutout, Sarnia goalies stopped a combined 21 shots on net while 18 shots were saved by the Summit goalie with the large equipment. The fans enjoyed the game in an arena that was very cold at least until the overhead heater was turned on.
