Forward Sessions
Dates: December 27, 28 and January 2, 3
Time: 11:15 am -12:15 pm each day
Location: PASA (Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia)
Cost: $160 for the 4 sessions (Individual days available once we see our numbers after
registration – Participants registering for all 4 sessions will be placed first, then individual
skaters.)
Limited number of players on the ice to increase the number of repetitions each athlete gets
each session. Sessions will be station and skill based to promote practice to game transfer
and provide for multiple repetitions to increase skill acquisition for the athlete.
Forward Focus Areas:
- Shooting techniques (eg. Changing the shot angle, catch and release habits).
- Pass reception skills and how to load the puck before shooting.
- Puck protection (e.g., moving on a puck touch, feeling pressure and rolling out of pressure)
- Acceleration work (e.g., V start, step over starts, crossover acceleration), other power skating
techniques.
- Under handling techniques and much more!
About the Head Instructor: Derek Di Muzio has had numerous coaching experiences from minor hockey to
the OHL. He is currently a coach in the Lambton AAA Association. He was an Assistant Coach with the Sarnia
Sting. He has also been a Head Coach and Assistant Coach in Jr B and Jr C.. Derek has also coached at the
Ontario U15 and U17 level, many years in AAA and a guest coach with the Canadian Men’s National Team.
As part of his role with the Sting, he was a skills development coach and helped develop NHL stars like Tony
DeAngelo, and Jakob Chychrun. He has also coached other players that are now playing in the NHL (e.g TJ
Brodie, Matt Martin, Cal Clutterbuck, Brett Ritchie, Pavel Zacha and more). Derek has a passion for seeing
young players develop and learn strategies/techniques that help provide desired game habits to these
young players.
