Dear Parents, Guardians and Spectators of Sarnia Hockey Association Players,
It has been reported that there have been cases of parents using abusive language and yelling at minors during games, practices, and other hockey-related activities. This behavior is blatant maltreatment of the players and is not in alignment with the values and principles of the Sarnia Hockey Association. As we continue to support our young athletes, we want to emphasize that we must do better. It is important to remember that, at the end of the day, it’s just a game. Our primary goal should be to foster an environment where players enjoy the experience, learn, and grow, both on and off the ice.
It is essential that we all work together to ensure that every player feels supported, valued, and safe. We need to do better in how we communicate and interact, as our actions set an example for the players. We kindly remind all parents, guardians and spectators to refrain from yelling at minors, coaches, or officials. Such behavior can create unnecessary pressure and negatively impact the development and enjoyment of our young athletes, as well as undermine the role of our young officials in ensuring fair play.
Please help us foster a positive environment by promoting encouragement, respect, and constructive feedback. We value your support and cooperation as we work to ensure the well- being of all players and officials in the Sarnia Hockey Association.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our young athletes, officials, and for creating an
atmosphere of respect and sportsmanship.
Sincerely,
Sarnia Hockey Association Executive Committee
