This past weekend,
the Sarnia U13 Select team SWARMED Amherstburg, Ontario at the Inaugural Lake
Erie Repko-Laframboise Select Tournament.
I am so proud and impressed with
how well the team came together. The determination shown on the ice, teamwork,
and comradery both on and off the ice speaks volumes to the character of these
boys!
In round robin play we battled to a
3-0-1 record with wins over Lake Erie North Stars, Talbot Trailblazers, and
Newmarket Renegades. The 1-1 tie with the Jordan Lions turned out to be foreshadowing
of the Finals match up to come.
The boys capped of an incredible weekend
with a semi final 4-0 shutout win for Jakob Rodriguez over the Talbot Trailblazers
and a heart pounding 1-0 victory over the Jordan Lions to capture GOLD. The lone
goal in the final was a 5v3 shorthanded goal by Cole Foster and shutout by Nate
Tracy.
- To highlight the “team first” mentality - Out of 95
skaters, our team had 6 of the top 10 players in tournament scoring, 7 in
the top 15!! This was lead by Lucas Bennett and Cole Foster tied for
second with 10 points and Eli Nutma with 7 in the fourth spot.
- Big Ben Hoidas showed his leadership by getting the
team fired up with his inspirational speeches.
- Our goalies, Nate Tracy & Jakob Rodriguez, stood
tall all weekend each recording a goals against average of just 0.67,
second only to the Jordan Lions goalie who had just 2 goals scored against
him in the tournament, both by SARNIA. Both goalies earned shutouts in the
playoff rounds anchoring our path to gold!
Shout out to Ryan Gervais and the U15 Selects on their Gold Medal doubling up Sarnia's impressive showing!! The U13s had a blast cheering you on!!

A big THANK YOU to our incredible
coaching staff & families for an incredible weekend!!
GO STING GO!
