5.16     COMMUNICATION

Organization Communications

The Representative Teams Management Committee is responsible for communicating all information from the SHA Board of Directors, ALLIANCE Hockey, the OHF, and Hockey Canada.  Information is also provided via various internet sites.  Team staff and parents are encouraged to check with the SHA web site, SHA FaceBook page, SHA Policies, Procedures & Regulations (available on the SHA web site), and ALLIANCE Hockey web site for relevant information.  If the team staff or parents still have questions, they should reach out to the Representative Teams Management Committee.

Within Team Communications

The Manager of the Rep team is responsible for communications within the team.  The Head Coach will lead the first parent meeting and provide the SHA approved team budget, expected tournament list, player expectations and other relevant team activities.  All Representative teams are required to have an appointed parent liaison. This person must be approved by means of a parent vote as opposed to being appointed by the coach or manager.  Once a parent liaison has been selected, the Representative Teams Management Committee must be informed of who is acting in this role for each team.

If a parent or player requires a meeting with the Head Coach and/or Manager to discuss a problem, contact should be made in the order listed below, one at a time until the matter is resolved:

1.      the team head coach through the team parent representative,

2.      the Director of your division (A/AA or B/BB),

3.      the Vice Chair Representative Teams

4.      the Chairperson of SHA for inclusion in the next Board of Directors Meeting.

Parents and players are encouraged to wait at least 24 hours after an event to initiate communications with the parent liaison and use all reasonable efforts to resolve problems with the Head Coach before involving higher levels of appeal.  Parents should feel free to talk to the coaching staff about issues pertaining to the development of their child.  Parents should refrain from questioning coaches’ decisions particularly as it relates to the handling of the team and game situations within the parameters of this Manual.  As an organization our goal is to provide children with the best coaching available and we entrust the coaches selected to develop players to their full potential.
