5.29     EXPECTATIONS OF REP PLAYERS

There is considerable effort provided by SHA, team Coaches, Managers, and parents in the Representative hockey program.  Therefore, there are expectations for the players themselves who wish to compete in the Representative hockey program.  Some expectations are as follows:

1.      Players registered with Sarnia Hockey Association will not play or practice with any other team in any other Association except those affiliated with the AAA zone or those on a school team.

2.      Players will follow all policies and procedures set down by Hockey Canada and those amendments put in place by the Ontario Hockey Federation and its Member Partners. Additional regulations set down by Sarnia Hockey Association will also be followed.

3.      All players are under the jurisdiction of Sarnia Hockey Association while participating in all sanctioned activities.

4.      Players are obligated to attend as many scheduled games and practices as possible.  It is mandatory to notify the coach when the player is unable to attend games or practices.

5.      It is the responsibility of the player to respect the coaching staff, on ice officials, opposing players and the player’s teammates during all activities of Sarnia Hockey Association.

6.      No Sarnia Hockey Association player will use alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, chewing tobacco or any other banned substance while participating in any SHA activity.

All players are expected to comply with ALLIANCE Hockey Fair Play Codes.

1.      I will play hockey because I want to, not just because others or coaches want me to.

2.      I will play by the rules of hockey, and in the spirit of the game.

3.      I will control my temper - fighting and “mouthing off” can spoil the activity for everybody.

4.      I will respect my opponents.

5.      I will do my best to be a true team player.

6.      I will remember that winning isn’t everything - that having fun, improving skills, making friends, and doing my best are also important.

7.      I will acknowledge all good plays/performances - those of my team and of my opponents.

8.      I will remember that coaches and officials are there to help me.  I will accept their decisions and show them respect.
