GOJHL Petitioning To Allow 26 Member GOJHL To Reclassify To Tier II Jr A
Submitted By Amanda Madere on Wednesday, June 2, 2021
Hello to all fans, sponsors, staff, players and parents! I hope all is well with everyone. There is a lot happening inside the GOJHL right now. Currently, a petition in support of allowing the OHA to allow the 26 member GOJHL to reclassify to Tier ll Jr.A is circulating and gaining support! "We are very excited and hopeful this will lead us in a positive direction and have the OHA, OHF or Hockey Canada get involved to #DoTheRightThing." Said Sarnia Legionnaires President Cliff Smith.

Mr. Smith also stated that "The level of play amongst GOJHL players is equal to that of other Tier ll Jr. A players in Ontario, but its Jr. B status makes it less appealing for scouts, thereby reducing opportunities for players to move forward with their education and playing careers. Players that live in the GOJHL footprint that are seeking to play Tier ll Jr. A are forced to relocate to play, losing the support mechanism of family and friends that is critical to personal development. The GOJHL has the second largest number of registered players in the province and Canada and has no Tier ll Jr. A league. The three other Tier ll Jr A leagues in the province have far fewer registered players. The GOJHL has been recognized for years as having Junior A caliber of play and player development. Many teams within the GOJHL have OHL affiliation agreements that are used to develop younger players, as well as bring up players from their rosters when OHL players are sidelined."
