
Outline to Gradually Ease Public Health Measures
As announced in the Provincial News Release on January 20, 2022, Ontario will follow a cautious and phased approach to lifting public health measures, with 21 days between each step, in the absence of concerning trends in public health and health care indicators. Effective January 31, 2022 at 12:01am, Step 3 of the Reopening Ontario Act came into effect. Important changes have been made to these regulations that include the following for your sector.
Facilities used for indoor or outdoor sports and recreational fitness activities may open with the
following restrictions:
Capacity limits at 50 per cent in non-spectator areas of sports and
recreational fitness facilities, including gyms.
Spectator areas of facilities to operate at 50 per cent seated capacity
or 500 people, whichever is less.
Food and Drink services may resume for indoor spectators, however,
spectators must remain seated while consuming food or drink.
Collection of contact information from patrons is no longer required.
Active screening of patrons continued to be required.
Enhanced proof of vaccination (Refer to Proof of Vaccination Guidance and Q&A), and
other requirements that continue to apply can be found under Schedule 2, Section 16 of
the O. Reg 364/20.
INDOOR MASKING – Masks continue to be required to be worn at all times, by
members of the public and for employees serving the public and when they
cannot maintain 2 metres distance from others in employee only areas. There
remains limited exemptions to this requirement. Refer to this information to
support proper mask wearing in the workplace to reduce the risk of transmission.
PHYSICAL DISTANCING – Work environments set up to reduce the incidence
of the public and employees from coming within less than 2 metres of each other,
remain required measures to reduce transmission. This includes public line up
management and break and lunch room set-up.
