2023-24 U8/9 Recreational Season
Welcome to the 2023-24 Sarnia Hockey Association U8/9 Recreational Hockey League. My name is Justin Day and I am the Director for the U8/9 Recreational League. The season is just around the corner, so I’d like to provide an update on the upcoming season and where things currently stand.

U8/9 Evaluation Skate

There will be a U8/9 Evaluation Skate taking place on Sunday, September 17th from 9am to 12pm at Clearwater Arena on the Blue Rink. Each player will skate for one 40-minute session. This skate will be used to assess the players’ skill levels in order to create balanced teams for the season as fairly as possible. The ice times are as follows:

9:00am-9:40am – Players with surnames beginning with A to C

9:45am-10:25am – Players with surnames beginning with D to K

10:30am-11:10am – Players with surnames beginning with L to Q

11:15am-11:55am – Players with surnames beginning with R to Z

Please ensure your player is wearing a full set of protective equipment (including helmet, gloves, and neck guard). Also please try to wear a jersey with a number on the back (from last season if possible).

2023-24 Season

We are still finalizing the start date of the season and will provide an update on that as soon as possible. Practices will take place on Friday evenings and games on Sunday mornings. All ice is at Clearwater Arena, unless specifically noted on the league calendar or communicated to you by your coach. Games are cross-ice from the beginning of the season until after the Christmas break, when they transition to full-ice. The ice times are as follows:

Practices – Friday evenings beginning at 5pm or 6pm (one hour in length)

Games – Sunday mornings beginning at 8am, 9am, 10am or 11am (one hour in length)

Teams will rotate practice and game times each week. You will be able to see your team’s schedule on the league website.

Volunteers

Head Coaches: we are currently in need of Head Coaches. Anyone interested please contact me as soon as possible. Our leagues can not run without a Head Coach for each team.

Evaluation Skate: anyone willing to help out on the ice during the Evaluation Skate would be greatly appreciated. We will be doing basic drills at three stations, and the drills will be provided for anyone who helps out. We need 3-4 on-ice helpers for each of the 40-minute sessions.

A link to the League Calendar can be found at the top of this page.

If you have any specific questions relating to the upcoming season, feel free to email me. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the rink soon.
