When does my child practice?
Practice is based on the level of hockey your player is in and which division.  Please consult the Our Programs page under the Registration Tab for further details.

Can I specify a certain coach that I want my child to play for?

Unfortunately, with a registration base of over 1200 participants it has become impossible to accommodate special requests.  Coaches are responsible for drafting their own teams. Therefore, if you are coaching you can ensure your own child is on your team.

Can I request that my child play with his friend for car pooling purposes?

Again, it is impossible to accommodate special requests.  Once the first week of hockey has been played and it is unworkable for you to get your child to the arena, a request in writing can be given to the League Convenor and they will try to accommodate your situation.  If you can not be accommodated, you can request a refund.

My child wants to be a full time goalie - does he/she get to play a full game each week?

U7 through U11 are developmental years and we ask that each child try the different positions to find what they like or are good at.  U13 and above, positions are pretty set.  We strive to have 1 goalie per team but sometimes we have more goalies than teams.  In this case, 2 goalies may be assigned to a team and will share the role equally.

What documentation do I need if I want to coach or be a trainer?

All coaches, trainers, bench staff, on ice helpers and managers must have completed the Respect in Sport-Activity Leader.  A number of other coaching requirements are required.  An updated chart with this information will be posted soon.

Also, the Alliance and SHA require a Criminal Reference Check (Police Check) which can be obtained through your local police station.  This must be updated every 3 years.  We also require a Declaration be signed each year.  Your league convenor or registrar can tell you more about this requirement.

Where can I sign up to be a coach or trainer?

Coaching applications can be filled out on our website.  Please contact your league/division director for further information.

Is there a league specifically for girls?

SHA is an inclusive association accepting boys and girls.  While the majority of our participants are boys, we have a number of girls throughout our system.  Where possible, we try to place 2 or more girls together on a team.
