Welcome to the start of what promises to be fun and
rewarding hockey season. My name is Mathew Simard, and I’m proud to be the head
coach of the U10 BB team this year. I’m
excited to kick off what promises to be an incredible season of growth,
development, and competition.
All tryout dates are posted on the team calendar. Our first
session will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, from 10:00–11:30 AM at Clearwater
Arena (Blue Rink). To ensure a smooth and organized skate, players will be
split into two groups based on last name:
- 10:00–10:45 AM – Players with last names
beginning A–L
- 10:45–11:30 AM – Players with last names
beginning M–Z
Goalies will participate in
both skates
Please arrive at the arena 45 minutes prior to your
scheduled session to sign in and receive a borrowed tryout pinnie. Upon
arrival, check in at the registration desk where you’ll be assigned a pinnie to
wear for that skate and return afterward.
What to Expect at Tryouts:
- Session 1 & 2: A "Skills &
Drills" format focusing on speed, stamina, puck control,
determination, and attitude.
- Sessions 3 & 4: These will include a 30-minute
warm up / “Skills and Drills” and then scrimmage, focusing on compete
level, teamwork, positional play, and hockey IQ.
Player evaluations will be conducted fairly and based on:
- Skill level
- Work ethic and effort
- Coachability
- Overall fit within the team
Carding of players can take
place after the first tryout and will be an email-based notification. This is a
new system for us this year so please be patient with us as we navigate through
this
Please check the team website after each tryout for updates
and to see if your player will be moving on in the U10 BB tryout process. Players will be guaranteed at least two
skates and decisions will not be made until after tryout on Monday May 5th.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I’m looking
forward to watching each player compete and show what they can bring to the
team. Best of luck to everyone — work hard, have fun, and enjoy the process!
