Welcome U11 BB!
Coach Chris here wishing you a warm welcome and looking forward to another exciting season of Sarnia Sting minor hockey!

I am very grateful to be leading the U11 BB group for the 2025/26 season and looking forward to having a lot of success and fun with this team both on and off the ice!

I know that the evaluation selection process can be cumbersome and stressful for both players and parents, thus I wanted to provide you a welcome note and an introduction on what to expect over the course of the evaluations.

The first two sessions we will be largely focused on hockey fundamentals and we will be running a number of quantitative drills to evaluate our players skill sets.

This will include skating speed, puck handling speed, shot speed, and shot accuracy. We will also be looking at compete level, endurance, and overall coachability.

While our players are focused on their fundamentals, our goalies will also be looked at in a similar manner. They will be evaluated on their angles, reflexes, rebound control, lateral movement, and puck tracking. Compete, endurance, and overall coachability will also be part of the goalie evaluations.

I will lead a brief warmup at the start of each session to stretch out the legs and get our players ready to go.

Depending on the number of players registered, we may split the ice into two sessions by last name, thus please keep an eye on the website for further updates as we get closer to the tryout dates.

A number of different non-affiliated evaluators will be present at all tryout sessions both on the ice and in the stands helping me to make what I already know will be difficult decisions on roster selection.

All players will be invited back for the 2nd session on Sunday, after which an initial round of releases will be made.

In the subsequent tryout sessions will be evaluating players in more “game like” scenarios.

This will include an exhibition game in Mooretown as well as some intersquad 5 on 5 and 3 on 3 style games.

In these evaluations we will be focused on hockey IQ, compete level, positional play, and coachability.

For those who are selected to the final roster, there will be a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday May 14th at 6:30 PM. Additional details to follow, but please try to keep this time spot open for at least one player parent/guardian to attend.

As always if you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to reach out!

Coach Chris
