McDonald's Atom House League Week 8
The 8th week of McDonald's Atom House League Hockey proved to be yet another nail biting weekend, as the coaches
of the teams are still
plucking out their new grey hairs. Red and Yellow, Blue and Green, Black and
White, and Grey and Orange went head to head and played hard in yet another electric
week at Clearwater. The name of the game this week: Secondary Scoring.
Red and Yellow faced off in the
“Spanish Squabble” in the first game of the morning. The Red team hopped out to
an early 4-0 lead after a pair of goals from Austin Bishop (assists to Caron
and Schechinger), a marker from Matteo Troiani, and a Tyler Caron tally to
round off two periods of play. But in the third, Yellow started storming back
like conquistadors with three goals from Alexander Dafoe, and you could almost
sense the fear of the boomerang effect from the red team as they snuck away
with a 0:01 game winner against Blue the week before. But it was not to be for
the Yellow team as they just fell short leaving the score 4-3 for Red.
Next up was the “Recycling Fracas”
The Green and Blue teams faced off second in the batting order and took the
game to the wire. The first period only saw scoring from Blue as Jack
Hutchinson scored two unassisted. In the second the teams each got scoring.
Blue got markers from Liam Cullinan and Chase Nickels, and Green answered with
one of their own from Costa Columbo’s first of the year from Brady
Krasinziewicz. The second ended with the score 4-1. The third period saw
Green’s Jack Symington snipe a one period hat-trick that spanned 3 shifts. But
Blue simply had more firepower and drilled home 2 more (Jack Hutchinson
completed his second hat-trick in as many weeks) and Christian D’agostini
scored to keep his goal streak alive. The score finished with Blue edging out
Green 6-4.
The third matchup was Black and
White in the “Chess Challenge.” The First period saw scoring from both teams as
Christopher Blair scored for White and Sebastien Fraser and Ethan Charron
scored for Black. In the second period though, secondary scoring lead the way
for the Black team. With their first goals of the year respectively, Nate
Snauwaert, and Tony Vario each sniped their way into the goal column setting
Black ahead 4-1. In the final frame, Blair scored again for White.
And finally Grey and Orange faced
off in the 11 o’clock matchup and played to a 3-2 Orange Victory. First period
scoring came only from Orange. Connor Maness and Quinn Schmidt scored the
Orange tallies. After a scoreless second period (credit to Goaltenders Josh
Craig and Mitchell Clarke) the third period saw Orange’s Quinn Schmidt put up
his second goal (and third point of the game.) Yet the Grey team didn’t go down
without a fight In the final period, Grey put up two goals from Daniel Gratton
and Xander Stafford and simply ran out of track so-to-speak on the comeback.
