Chatham Cobras at Sarnia Sting Midgets

Sarnia Sting Midgets defeated Chatham Cobras 3-0 Sunday afternoon in a hard fought MD exhibition hockey contest at Sarnia Arena. In the first period, Devin Butler scored from close in front at 5:45 assisted by Aaron Buckeridge and Joey Austin. Sarnia drew two penalties but ended the first with no scoring damage.
The Cobras started a string of penalties late in the second but neither team scored.
Early in the third, Owen Gibson capitalized on a hard wrist shot from the point assisted by Jason Braun to give the Sting a two goal lead. That was followed shortly thereafter with a goal by Richard McIntosh when he converted a rebound from a hard slapshot by Gibson. Jason Braun also drew an assist on the goal. A string of nasty penalties followed by both sides. Each side totalled 18 minutes in minors but Chatham added 30 minutes in misconducts. Jason McArthur and Noah Melanson combined in net for the shutout kicking out 19 shots on goal. Sarnia fired 29 shots on net in the victory.
