Big Efforts Pay Off for Maroons Mega Hockey Weekend
The Maroons had a busy schedule this weekend!  Saturday AM Practice followed by games Saturday PM and Sunday AM.  Then wrapping it up with a team get-together at Hiway Bowl for some relax time and refreshments.

Game #1 was played at the old barn on Brock Street.  The Maroons took on the Orange Team in a league series that continues to be a back and forth battle.  Chase DeHaan took to the blue ice between the posts.  It didn't take The Maroons too long to start avenging last weeks loss.  Logan Jones opened up the scoring, lurking in front of the orange goal. He picked up a corner pass from Luke Anjema (Season Record - 4 Assists this game) and put the puck in on the short side.  Second goal of the period was put in by 'D Man' Colton Lotz with an assist awarded to Luke Anjema. Casey Guerette was able to score his first goal of the season assisted by Luke Anjema and Abilene Clark in the dying seconds of the first.  3-1 Maroon.

The lone scorer in the 2nd period was Logan Jones with assists earned by Colton Lotz and Luke Anjema.  This period was full of back and forth action in the neutral zone, both teams slugging it out in front of a big crowd.  4-1 Maroon moving into the 3rd.

During the last period you could see both teams wearing down.  The Battle at the Barn was taking it's toll.  Orange was able to put a second goal past Chase DeHaan bringing the score 4-2 late in the 3rd.  Last goal of the game was scored by Casey Guerrette. Assisted by his twin brother Mason and Mathieu DesRochers.  Final Score at the Buzzer was 5-2 Maroons.  PLAYER OF THE GAME was awarded to defensive pair Ryerson Dietrich and Julia Gibb for standing strong on the blue line and their contribution to the Maroon win.

Game #2 was played Sunday morning at Clearwater Arena against the Black Team.  Claire Schleihauf was in net for the first time this season.  The Maroons had a wild first period fighting off a 5 on 3 disadvantage.  Tripping penalties being served by Chase DeHaan and Luke Anjema only 1 minute apart.  This was the first time this season a Maroon has served a sentence to the box. Maroon and Black finished the first period 0-0.

The second period was much like the first, no score for 8 minutes of game play.  During the period the Maroons were hit with an unexpected loss, Ryerson D had to leave the game early feeling a bit under the weather.  2 minutes to go, scoring was opened up by Casey Guerette and assisted by Logan Jones.  Moving into the 3rd, score was 1-0 Maroon.

Another big period played by the Black team.  Lots of back and forth action, with shots on goal.  Black just could not capitalize.  Colton Lotz scored an unassisted goal with a rocket from just inside the blue line.  Final Score 2-0 Maroon.  Claire earned her first career shutout and PLAYER OF THE GAME was awarded to Mason Guerette for his continuous effort to drive the puck towards the net.

See you next week when Maroon takes on their practice partner Sky Blue to try and put another W on the board.
