It was an exciting tournament. The Sarnia Jr Sting Major Peewee MD team came out strong in the first game Friday and went undefeated all weekend. It came down to a shoot out on Sunday in the finals, but we worked together as a team for our first tournament win. Congratulations boys!
The team beat a tough Oakridge team 3-2, a team we have seen a few times in regular league play. Game # 2 we came out strong again against the Metro Jets AA team, working hard for a 6-4 win. Winning our first two games gave a bye into semifinals Sunday. With Saturday off to relax and have a little fun we prepared for the semi’s facing another tough team, the Rockford Rams AA team. We fought hard and won 3-1, moving us onto the finals Sunday afternoon to face the Ancaster Avalanche.
The finals was a close game to the very end. Both teams played a great game. Regulation time ended in a 3-3 tie, brining us to one overtime period. Overtime presented lots of scoring chances on the big ice, but no goals. Next up was the shoot out. Sarnia, being the home team selected to go first, both teams first shooter was stopped. Then Sarnia’s next three shooters all scored, we won 3-1 in the shootout. The tournament MVP was Ty Golden for his strong goaltending, it really was a great team effort all around to go undefeated. Congratulations boys on our first tournament win of the season.
