McDonald's Atom House League Week 7
McDonald's Atom House League has reached week 7 as the season rolls on. Comebacks were the tag line this week with four more exciting matchups. Grey and Black, Orange and White,

Yellow and Green, and Red and Blue all faced off in stellar Saturday morning action.

In the first matchup Black and Grey faced off in a thriller that had “Classic” written all over it. Black’s Jacob Roe and Jack Woolvett teamed up to open the scoring in the first, and that score remained until with just under two minutes left in the second, Gabe Olivotto and Sebastien Fraser pounded in the Black team’s second. But in the third, the Grey team netted markers from Kyle Fraser, and Josh Grant (from Zion Ainsworth, and Daniel Gratton) to tie the game up with 4:47 left. But quick to answer was Ethan Charron for the Black team, as he scored 1:04 seconds later to put Black one step ahead again. And finally with 1:09 left in the contest, Jacob Roe put the game on ice, with his second of the bout.

The second matchup set Orange against White in our “Candy Corn” battle. The first period only saw one goal scored, and it came off the tape of White’s Thomas Field. The second period saw more scoring from White with Field’s second tally, and a pair of goals from Luke West to boot. Orange got on the board in the second frame with a marker from Ryan Dennis. And then in the third period, the White team stretched the lead to 6-2 after a goal each from the dynamic duo of Thomas Field, and Gregory Van Heyst. The score remained 6-2 to finish the game.

In the third matchup of the morning Yellow and Green faced off in our “Stoplight” game. Yellow got off to a slow start as Green peeled out to a 2-0 lead due to the on-point shooting of Brady Krasinkiewicz and Aiden Matuzic. But in the final corner, Yellow broke late, and pounded home 3 straight goals. Alexander Dafoe netted the 2-1 marker, and quickly after Nolan Jennings rev’d up his scoring engine, and netted a pair with the help of Nathan Stewardson. The game was a photo finish, as Yellow seemed to save all of their horsepower until the final lap. The final score was 3-2.

And in the final game of the morning, Red and Blue faced off in our “Barbershop Battle.” One for the history books as the two scoring powerhouses took to the ice. The first period ended 3-1 after Blue got a goal each from Liam Cullinan, Christian D’agostini, and Jack Hutchinson and Red’s single came from Justis Lapier. In the second period Blue stretched the score to 5-3 after goals from Chase Nickels, and Hutchinson’s second. Red’s markers came from Tyler Caron, and Justis Lapier. But the third period was a test for the blood pressure. Red’s Matteo Troiani and Mitchel Keelan made it 5-5. Their teammate Tyler Caron scored his second to pull his team into the lead for the first time in the game. Blue responded with Christian D’agostini’s second of the game pulling the squads even yet again. Tyler Caron netted his second goal from Austin Bishop with 10 minutes and change left in the third. But Blue kept battling and brought themselves back into the lead with a marker at 2:51 from Jack Hutchinson completing hi
s hat-trick. But nearly 1:10 seconds later Austin Bishop tied the game for Red, setting the stage for the heart pounding, white-knuckle finish. With 0:01 left on the clock (that’s right ONE second) Austin Bishop scored his second goal of the game, and celebrated the 8-7 Red victory with his team. What a game! And what a week in Atom House League Hockey.
