Sting Start Weekend Tournament With Victory.
The Sarnia Sting started their weekend tournament in Mooretown with a victory over the host team, the Mooretown Storm by a margin of 6-3.

The Sting travelled for an after school matchup against the Storm for their second meeting of the year.  This meeting was another hotly contested matchup between the two teams.

The game started off with some sloppy play by both teams as each team seemed to be looking to find their groove.  Andrew Czyczurko started the scoring with another one of his (what is now becoming a trademark) put back goals.  The goal was assisted by Ian Bailey.  The period ended in a 1-0 tie for the Sting.

The Storm decided in the second that they would use their significant size advantage as the game suddenly began to get physical.  The Sting responded well as most of the team began dishing it out as much as they were taking it.  The Sting remained disciplined, with their hits, only drawing two penalties, despite this being the most physical game they have played all year.  The Storm managed to find the penalty box four times.  There was a Honey Badger sighting which was a welcome sign as the coaching staff were starting to wonder if the Honey Badger was an animal that started hibernating in November.

The scoring ramped up through the second and third periods.  Spencer Baillie scored the next Sting goal with an assist from Czyczurko.  Cole Goossens then started his trip to the score sheet with an unassisted goal of his own.

The third period started with Cole Goossens second goal which was assisted by Evan Trigatti and Ian Bailey.  An assist that didn't make the score sheet on this goal goes to Kaz Gudelis whose physical play didn't allow the Storm to clear the puck out of their end forcing a face-off in their end, ultimately leading to the Goossens goal.  This extra bit of effort and physicality doesn't go unnoticed by the coaching staff.

Goossens then completed his hat trick with another unassisted goal as the Sting finally began taking over the game.  Spencer Baillie then added his second goal with a shot, on net, that deflected off a Storm defenceman's skate.  The assist on the goal went to Aiden Clark.  That ended the scoring for the night.

In the dressing room after the game the coaches asked the players why the other team always dictates whether or not the team is going to play a physical game.  Hopefully, the players realize now that they can play a physical style of game without drawing penalties.

Players of the game went to Cole Goossens who played a physical game and scored a hat trick.  Andrew Czyczurko was the coach's choice.  Czyczurko's hustle and scoring prowess is becoming a welcome sight.

Cam Stevens picked up the win in net.

Also, a shout out goes to the defencemen who are starting to get more physical in front of the net and protect the area around the crease.  The physical Storm team certainly tested the Sting defencemen as they did an excellent job of crashing the net.

Next up... Oakridge tomorrow night...
