Three Games in Two Days...
The Sting continued their hockey filled weekend with three games starting with a game versus their league foe Oakridge and two games in the Mooretown tournament.  The Sting came away with two wins and one loss.

On Friday night the Sting played at home against Oakridge.  The Sting started the game in slow motion as the first period ended in a 1-1 tie.  The Sting then poured it on in the second and third scoring five in the second period and four in the third.  Ultimately the Sting won 10-3.

Goals in the game were scored by Cole Goossens with two, Ian Bailey with two, Tyler Talbot-Ellis, Spencer Baillie, Andrew Czyczurko, Stevie Scheafer (yes, that Stevie Schaefer), Evan Trigatti, and Hayden Griffin.  Assists went to Colin Zimmer, Evan Trigatti, Cole Goossens with two, Ian Bailey, Andrew Czyczurko, Josh D'Angela, and Mathew Waun.

Players of the game were Ian Baillie and Josh D'Angela.  Both players were awarded the game helmets for their tenacious back checking and for-checking.

Sarnia then travelled to Mooretown for their second tournament game against the Kent Cobras.  The Sting came out flat thinking they had already won the game prior to playing.  It was explained after the game that just because a team you beat two days earlier beat the team you are playing doesn't mean you automatically win.  Unfortunately, this is the second time this has happened this year and hopefully the players learned that anything can happen once the puck drops and you must prepare for each game accordingly...

The game was a high scoring affair with both teams registering over 30 shots on each others goalies.  The final score was 7-6 in favour of the opposing Cobras who pulled their goalie in a tie game knowing that they required a win to keep their tournament hopes alive.  Scoring for the Sting went to Cole Goossens with a hat trick,Spencer Baillie, Aidan Clark and Kaleb Zeytinoglu.  Assists went to Spencer Baillie with three, Cole Goossens and Greg Ross.

Players of the Game were Spencer Baillie and Kaleb Zeytinoglu.  Spencer Baillie scored a beautiful goal when he was tripped on a break away, quickly sprung to his feet without losing his speed and then put a move on the helpless goaltender.

The Sting then played an afternoon game against the Caledonia Thunder.  This was a must win game for the Sting if they wished to play in Sundays tournament final.

Spencer Baillie set the tone for the game scoring fifteen seconds into the game on a goal that was assisted by Cole Goossens.  Greg Ross then scored the second goal when he scored on a shot from the point that beat the screened Thunder goaltender.  Josh D'Angela scored what proved the be the winning goal with a spinning wrist shot which found the bottom corner of the net.  Andrew Czyczurko scored an insurance goal on a beautiful pass from behind the net from Tyler Talbot-Ellis.  Evan Trigatti also got an assist on the goal.

Players of the game were Damon Skinn-Wai who picked up his game after a slow start with some great passes up to the forwards as well as some good positioning.  Skinn-Wai was challenged, by the coaches, to rediscover his mean streak which he found in the second and third period.  Cam Stevens was the parents pick with some great goaltending keeping the Sting in the game until they got things going.

The Sting go into the finals a little beaten and bruised from some very physical games over the last couple days.  The final game against Caledonia saw 12 penalties total, 8 of which were called against the opposing team.  The penalties against Caledonia included 5 head checking penalties, two hitting from behind penalties and a cross checking penalty.  The Honey Badger wishes he had his playstation in the penalty box as he gathered three penalties and Spencer Baillie added one.

The win by the Sting propels them into the tournament final tomorrow in Mooretown.

Go Sting!!!
