Sarnia Sting Minor Midgets travelled to Hamilton to face the Huskies

Friday evening. However when team players got past Brantford on the 403, about 16 km from the Chedoke Arena the traffic came to a standstill. The icy, snowy conditions and the heavy stop and go traffic kept the team from arriving to the arena an hour and 1/2 late. The Sting rushed to get dress and hit the ice with no warm-up. The game was delayed a few minutes to make allowance with only the two linesmen officiating. The referee did not arrive until the second period as it took him 5 hours to come from Toronto. The Sting were short two centers and a right winger due to illness, suspension and broken leg. The result was 4 quick goals by Hamilton in the first only to hold onto a 5-3 victory over the Sting.

In the first, Hamilton scored two quick goals then added another after two Sarnia penalties. Dillon Saunders tried to bring the Sting back with an unassisted goal at 6:29. Hamilton added another following another Sarnia penalty at 3:04 for the 4-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The Huskies added a fifth goal at 6:04 of the second. Sarnia tried to come back again with a goal by Kevin Durco at 4:20 assisted by Saunders and Gage Riddoch. The power play goal left the Sting down 5-2 at the end of two.

Sarnia got the only goal of the third late in the game after a mixed bag of penalties. Saunders drove the puck home again assisted by Riddoch and Kyle Adams. Cole Lauzon made 21 saves in Sarnia’s net keeping the score from being worse while the Hamilton goalie saved 21 also.
