9th Playoff Game Report
Hello Team and Parents, once again we would play the Gold Team who we practice with each week. When we came up against them last time it was in February and they beat us 5-1 but we must remember back in October we beat them for our 1st win of the season. Black would start out strong and move the puck well with Grayson Levy shooting it around the back of our net and out of our zone.
Next up Alex Campbell retrieves the puck in our end and almost spins himself into the ice as he clears the puck with intensity, well done Alex. At the other end of the rink Danny Morningstar sends in a shot from the point that just misses the net. Terrance Williams would make coach Aaron happy as he lifted the stick of a Gold player to steal the puck and stop a scoring chance. Unfortunately at 7:50 of the 1st Gold would beat our goalie James Robbins with a quick shot that just missed James's outstretched glove. With our team feeling the heat Landon Williams would step up and fire his own quick shot to keep the Gold goalie hopping. With Gold still attacking our end James would kick out a nice pad save to further energize our team. Now with our team starting to pull together Kaleb Orrange deflects a shot to assist his goalie and then Terrance Williams would clear the puck to close out the period. The 2nd period would test our goalie quickly as James would stop a break away chance and show that he was steady and focussed on the game. Suddenly at the 11:00 minute mark of the period we would find ourselves with a penalty to kill off. The Gold team would feel energized and attacked relentlessly but Jimmy Lawrence would steal their thunder and score a short handed goal to frustrate the opposition. As the play continued Gold would win a faceoff in our end and once again test James with a point blank shot that he would eat up like a much liked twinkie! On the bench the coaching staff were astounded as Terrance was found standing and watching intently instead of sitting and resting as normal practice between shifts, something was up! He was wise to watch as Gold would again rush our end , only to be chased down by Grayson with speed and determination to break up the play , atta boy! Finally our patience and consistent play would pay off as Landon Williams found himself in front of the net , in his proper position, and would clean up some garbage and put us up 2-1 and end the period. The 3rd would not disappoint our fans as Jimmy went in for a breakaway attempt to keep everyone on their feet. After that Kaleb would set up Jimmy for another scoring chance! With our team playing strong we had a melt down and Gold would send in 3 on 1 but James had their backs and made another great stop. Danny would step up not only on defence but would take the puck end to end looking like Bobby Orr in his heyday! With the game being only a 1 goal advantage and time ticking our hearts were pounding and fists clenched as Grayson again hustled back to break up another scoring chance by Gold. Jordan Brooks also got in on the action and had a scoring chance on a face off, after that Gold had a 1 timer just miss our net. With 4:00 minutes left our Captain Ryson Payne would dump the puck out of our end and chase it down to put a high shot just past their net. Now Gold is everywhere and certainly desperate for a last minute rally, but Alex had his own idea of how this game should end and would dump the puck out of our end only for Jimmy to find and deposit in Gold's empty net to secure our win!! Looking back on the game 2 things stand out to me , 1 is when Grayson had a breakaway and suddenly Leland takes over as he speeds by to have a beautiful scoring chance, nice team work boys. The other was from the bench as I now know that Danny has an excellent chance at being the tallest person in his family, good luck Danny!! Well done team only 1 game left so let's make it count. GO BEAST GO!!
